Brimfield Flea Market!

I spent my day off at the Brimfield Antique Show today!
I try to go at least once every year (at least. there is SO much to see all in one place!)
Here are some things I saw:

I saw a whole bunch of strange little (actually kind of huge) doll houses today. I think this one is my favorite because the roof looks like it's made out of weird/dirty/sticky marshmallows.

The abundance of signage and letters at this thing is not adequately represented in this picture. And still, I have yet to find an ampersand to call my own...

Victorian copper coffin with glass window, circa 1875-1900.

I thought this display was pretty great. I love the TV so much.

My only purchase of the day: a pencil sharpener!
When you turn the handle, the record spins and the needle moves too.
Adorable.

Lots of catching up...

I've always loved the movie Ghost World directed by Terry Zwigoff (who also directed Crumb). Somehow it took me almost a decade since I first saw the movie to read the comic it was based on.
Yesterday I got Ghost World by Daniel Clowes in the mail and read it cover to cover right away. It didn't disappoint! The movie turns out to be very close to the original comic, no doubt because Clowes co-wrote the screenplay with Zwigoff.

Here's the trailer for the movie:

I also watched Shut Up Little Man this weekend. It was hilarious, but it also raises a lot of questions about audio veritae, artistic collaborations, copyright, public domain, all that stuff. Here's the trailer for that as well:

More to come soon!

Some little thangs

Here are some little things I've made recently. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of my paintings soon...

I love details like this from old books.
And library books usually have the added bonus of pockets inside the covers!

So there are some things I've been up to... more to come soon.

Guerilla Libraries

There's an article on the Atlantic website about guerilla libraries that's pretty neat. A Columbia grad student, John Locke, is installing libraries in old pay phone stalls. You can read the interview with him here. Pretty awesome, albeit very idealistic.

p.s. Do you think John Locke is his real name?

something?

Sometimes I get slightly sleep deprived and find compositions I like everywhere I look.
I was organizing my desk before leaving the studio the other night (early morning!)
and I liked the way this pile of scraps looked.
Maybe I'm crazy, but maybe not.

Quick collages!

annnd I'm obsessed with oxidation/rust, so I'm starting to mess around with rusting surfaces.

Finally!

Moved into the studio last week! It's pretty small, but it works for me.

Is it weird that I've always wanted pegboard in my space? Making dreams come true over here.
Next move is to paint it mint green.
Oh yeah, and our bearded friend Dan has the space next to ours!

Cute as a Button... box.
Julian made this for me. He's also been pretty busy already,
check out this painting he made the other day in the studio.

Picked up this lovely vintage train case years ago and it has never failed me. I love it.
